Privacy Policy — DakshScan

DakshScan ("the app") is developed and operated by Daksh Digital Solutions ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app handles and why.

Summary

DakshScan scans and builds most of your documents (PDF/JPEG/PNG) entirely on your device. The one exception is the optional Premium Flatten tool — see "Data that leaves your device" below for what it sends and why. Outside of that one feature, nothing you scan is uploaded anywhere by this app.

What the app does on your device

• Camera: used only when you tap to capture a page. No image is recorded or transmitted in the background.
• Gallery and PDF import: you can also build a scan from existing photos, or (Premium) import an existing PDF, which is rasterized into pages on your device. Neither ever leaves your device except when you choose to save, share, or email the result.
• Saved files: exported scans are written to your device's normal Downloads folder — the same place any browser download lands — so you can open or share them with any app you choose.
• Scan history: the app keeps a local list of your past saves (filename, date, file size, and a small preview thumbnail) so you can reopen, re-share, or delete them later. This list and its thumbnails are stored only on your device and are encrypted at rest using your device's hardware-backed keystore. We cannot access this data.
• Settings and branding: filename preferences, your default "send to" email address, quality/cleanup preferences, and (Premium) custom branding text/logo are stored locally on your device. A custom branding logo image is also encrypted at rest the same way scan history thumbnails are.

Data that leaves your device

We use a small number of Google/Firebase services to run basic app functionality:

• Sign-in (Firebase Authentication): you may continue as a Guest (an anonymous session with no personal data) or sign in with your Google account. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo URL from Google to identify your session.
• Crash and error reporting (Firebase Crashlytics): if the app crashes or hits an unexpected error, a technical report (error message, stack trace, device/OS info) is sent to our Firebase project so we can fix bugs. These reports do not include your scanned documents or their content.
• Usage analytics (Firebase Analytics): we log basic product-usage events — for example, that a scan was completed, a document was saved/shared/emailed, or a setting was changed — along with non-identifying details like page count, file format, or which setting changed. These events tell us how the app is used in aggregate; they do not include your scanned document content, filenames, or file contents.
• App version check (Firebase Remote Config): on launch, the app checks a remote configuration value to see if you're running a version old enough to require an update, and to control which features (including ads, described below) are turned on. This check does not send any personal or document data — only a request for the current configuration.
• Page flattening (Flatten, optional Premium feature): if you choose to use Flatten to correct a warped or curved page photo, that specific page image is sent to our own Firebase Cloud Function for processing and the corrected result is returned to your device. The function processes the image in memory only — it is never written to storage, never logged, and not retained after processing finishes. This is the only feature that sends your document content off your device, and it only runs when you explicitly choose to use it.

We do not sell your data or share it with third parties for marketing purposes.

Advertising

DakshScan shows banner and interstitial ads via Google AdMob to Guest and Free-tier users only — Premium subscribers never see ads. Ad delivery can be remotely disabled at any time via a kill-switch. Google collects device and ad-interaction data to serve and measure these ads, as described in Google's own Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Payments (not yet active)

DakshScan is built with support for a Premium subscription (paid annually) and a Premium lifetime unlock, purchased through Google Play's billing system — this is not yet live. When available, all payment processing is handled entirely by Google Play; we never see or store your payment card or billing details. We only receive confirmation of what you purchased and its status (active, expired, refunded), which we use to unlock Premium features on your account.

Permissions

• Camera — to capture pages you choose to scan.
• Storage (Android 9 and below only) — to save your finished scan into the public Downloads folder. On Android 10+, the app uses Android's scoped storage (MediaStore) instead and does not need this permission.
• Notifications — used only for optional reminders you explicitly ask for (for example, a warranty-expiry reminder after saving a warranty card). Never used for promotions or marketing — you can decline this permission and the app works normally, just without reminders.
• Reschedule on restart (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — lets any reminder you've already set survive a device restart, since Android otherwise clears scheduled alarms on reboot. Does nothing if you have no reminders set.
• Internet — required for sign-in, crash reporting, usage analytics, the version/feature-flag check above, ads, and (once live) billing. Also used to send a page image to our Flatten cloud function, but only when you explicitly use that feature — see "Data that leaves your device" above.

Your choices

• You can use the app as a Guest without ever signing in with Google.
• You can delete individual scans (and their history entries) at any time from the in-app History screen, or delete groups of old scans via Settings → Storage — this does not require deleting your account, and works whether you're signed in or using the app as a Guest.
• You can sign out of your Google account at any time from Settings → Account; this does not delete files already saved to your Downloads folder.
• Uninstalling the app removes all app-local data (settings, history, thumbnails, branding). Files already saved to your Downloads folder are not removed automatically.
• If you'd like a specific piece of server-held data deleted (for example, just your referral record) without deleting your whole account, email dakshinvestmentspune@gmail.com describing what you'd like removed — see Account and data deletion above for full account deletion instead.

Account and data deletion

To request deletion of your account and the data associated with it, email dakshinvestmentspune@gmail.com from the same email address you used to sign in with Google, with the subject line "Delete my account." We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

Deleting your account removes: your name, email address, and profile photo reference held via Google Sign-In; your referral code and referral-count record; and any other account-linked record stored in our Firebase project. It does not require deleting files you've already saved to your device's Downloads folder — those are yours to manage directly on your device (see "Your choices" below), and we have no access to them regardless.

You can also delete in-app data yourself at any time without waiting on a request — see "Your choices" below — and uninstalling the app immediately removes all local app data from your device.

Children's privacy

DakshScan is a general-purpose document scanning utility and is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
